Tungsten Alloy Circle WNiFe

Overview

Tungsten Alloy Circle is a tungsten-based heavy alloy manufactured with a tungsten matrix and additions of nickel and iron. It combines high density, high strength, excellent radiation absorption capacity, a low thermal expansion coefficient, and favourable thermal conductivity, machinability, and weldability. It also possesses a degree of ferromagnetism and is environmentally friendly and non-toxic. These properties enable its extensive application in radiation shielding, industrial ballast, aerospace, and defence sectors, making it an ideal alternative to traditional materials such as lead.

WNiFe Features

  • High density, retaining tungsten's high strength and hardness while enhancing toughness through nickel-iron bonding phases, making it less prone to brittle fracture with stable mechanical properties.
  • Compared to pure tungsten, it permits machining, grinding, welding, and forging, offering lower forming difficulty and suitability for complex structural manufacturing.
  • Resistant to oxidation in dry ambient conditions, exhibiting superior acid and alkali corrosion resistance compared to pure tungsten, with enhanced environmental adaptability.
  • Possesses excellent thermal conductivity and thermal stability, maintaining structural integrity under temperatures of 600–700°C.
  • Demonstrates exceptional absorption of X-rays and gamma rays, offering greater environmental sustainability than lead and facilitating easier recycling.

Tungsten Alloy Circle Application

  1. Tungsten Alloy Disc serves as a high-density counterweight in aerospace applications (aircraft wing ballast, satellite attitude control weights), automotive manufacturing (racing car balance weights, engine counterweights), and precision instrumentation (gyroscope rotors, watch weights), leveraging its high density to achieve precise weighting and balancing.
  2. Tungsten Circle is employed in manufacturing highly wear-resistant punches, mould cores, and cutting tool substrates. Leveraging its exceptional hardness and toughness, it is suited for high-intensity cutting and stamping applications, delivering extended service life.
  3. Tungsten Round Plate serves as shielding blocks for medical radiotherapy equipment, radiation protection blocks in the nuclear industry, and core shielding components for CT scanners and X-ray machines. Its high density provides highly effective blocking of gamma rays and X-rays.
  4. Tungsten Alloy Circle is employed in high-voltage switch contacts and negative electrode substrates for new energy batteries. Its excellent electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance make it suitable for high-voltage, high-stability operating environments.

Tungsten Disc Process

① Select high-purity tungsten powder (≥99.95%), nickel powder, and iron powder. Blend the components in a mixer for 8–12 hours following the ratio of ‘85%–97% tungsten, 3%–15% nickel-iron’, with binder added to ensure uniform powder dispersion.

② Pour the mixed powder into circular moulds and form into circular green compacts via compression moulding or cold isostatic pressing. Ensure uniform density, absence of cracks, and dimensions close to the final product.

③ Place the deburred green compacts in a hydrogen-protected furnace for sintering at high temperature for 3–6 hours. This bonds the tungsten particles with the nickel-iron binder, forming dense circular tungsten-nickel-iron alloy blocks.

④ The sintered ingots undergo turning and grinding to ensure roundness, perpendicularity, and surface finish; heat treatment is applied in certain scenarios to optimise mechanical properties.

⑤ Density, hardness, tensile strength, dimensional tolerances, and other parameters are tested. Upon passing inspection, the components undergo surface cleaning and rust prevention treatment before final packaging and dispatch.
