Purpose

Working principle

The iodine molecule can easily combine with the grease molecules and adsorbs on the grease, and the iodine vapor can develop the greasy fingerprints in brown.

Description

3g of iodine crystal is sealed in an ampule, and 6 ampules are stored in a plastic bottle to prevent evaporation and ensure cleanness.

Method

A. First of all, judge whether the fingerprint contains grease, because only the prints involving grease can be uncovered by iodine with a good result, but sweat fingerprints cannot be developed well with iodine.

B. Hang the exhibit in the fuming cabinet, open an ampule, and place 3g of iodine in the bottle under the exhibit. Heat the iodine at a low temperature to let the iodine vapor smoke the exhibit. Observe the exhibit until the clear fingerprint appears.

Notice

Iodine vapor is corrosive and must be used in a well ventilated environment.
