Introduction:

1. Principle of operation: Ultrasonic non-woven welding utilizes high-frequency mechanical vibrations to create frictional heat at the bond interface of the non-woven materials. The process involves the following steps:

   • Preparation: The non-woven fabrics to be joined are placed together, ensuring proper alignment and contact along the bonding area.

   • Ultrasonic horn and anvil: An ultrasonic horn, also known as a sonotrode, is placed against one side of the non-woven fabrics, while a complementary anvil supports the other side.

   • Application of vibrations: An alternating electrical voltage is applied to a transducer, which converts it into high-frequency vibrations. These vibrations are transmitted to the horn, causing it to vibrate rapidly.

   • Welding phase: The vibrating horn applies pressure to the non-woven fabrics, causing them to deform and generate frictional heat. The heat softens the fibers on the surface of the fabrics, allowing them to fuse together.

   • Cooling and solidification: After a specified welding time, the vibrations and pressure are stopped, and the bonded area is allowed to cool and solidify, forming a strong bond.
