Wireline core barrels eliminate the major time consuming operation of using standard double tube core barrels – pulling, stacking and lowering drill rods each time the core barrel is full.
Their advantages are higher penetration,higher core recovery ratio.Longer bit life and lower labor intensity,and the advantages get more clear with the increasing of hole depth.
Wire line core barrels are used for deep holes, mostly because they do not need couple and uncouple the rod string each time the core is retrieved. An overshot assembly is dropped on a cable and directly connect to the inner tube assembly, allowing fast retrieval of the core after each operation.
All head assemblies incorporate a shut off valve assembly which provides a fluid pressure signal to the drill operator when the valve members are compressed, indicating a full or blocked inner tube.
The head assembly has latching and pivoting spear point mechanisms which allow insertion and retrieval of the inner tube assembly, a bearing assembly to allow the inner tube to remain stationary and avoid sample damage while drilling, fluid pressure operating indications and fluid control valves.
Available for each size of overshot assembly,this is the retrieval device lowered on the wireline to recover the inner tube assembly containing core.
At present, we have four kinds of Q series overshot assembly: BQ, NQ, HQ and PQ.
