Siempre me han gustado los recitativos, las letras leídas con música de fondo (que supongo viene de la ópera y acaba en el rap). Así que cuando en mi iTunes sonó esta antigua canción, me dispuse a averiguar qué decían -y especialmente a qué venía el título.

The Stand es un oscuro tema techno de finales de los años ochenta, que obtuvo cierta notoriedad, aunque nunca llevó al éxito masivo a su intérprete, Joolz.

Aún así, The Stand (La declaración) mantiene todo el misterio y adicción de su lanzamiento, en 1987.

Cuando me puse a buscar la letra, me sorprendí de no encontrarla por ningún lado (puede que sea mi falta de pericia) pero sí encontré una imagen de la funda del disco (ver abajo) donde se podían “adivinar” las palabras.

Por el método de escuchar y comparar, una vez tuve frases completas, las introduje en la casilla de búsquedas para ver si en algún lugar aparecían. Efectivamente, en un foro de motos había un hilo sobre música techno en las que alguien las había pegado en diferentes párrafos, sin citar, aparentemente, su procedencia.

Por eso ahora los pego yo aquí, para que puedan figurar de aquí en adelante en un sitio donde sean sencillos de encontrar. De nada.

It was inevitable, I suppose. I mean, it had been building up for weeks. No one could talk about anything else, just going over it and over it and over it. Honest, I was sick to hear of it all. They wouldn’t let it drop, course, they’re not stupid. Stands to reason, never underestimate your enemies’ intelligence, as they say. Oh they knew what was what. No doubt about it. then…they Got what they wanted in the end too, I suppose. We just couldn’t resist…….

Oh, everyone rushed around congratulating us, ‘you won, you won, it was great, you were great…’ People just didn’t seem to understand how we felt… So we just let on everything was fine… I don’t know, all I can say is, I don’t think we betrayed anyone, did we, eh? Oh, I don’t think we let anyone down… except maybe… us
